College of Life Donation

Representatives of Tri-Town Construction, who are moving the building, the College of Life Foundation, the Estero Historical Society and descendants of the Alvarez/Smith family participated in the check presentation.

Estero, FL – September 15, 2025 – The Estero Historical Society is thrilled to announce that the College of Life Foundation has presented the Society with a $50,000 check in support of the relocation and restoration of the historic 1916 Alvarez/Smith House.

Earlier this year, the Foundation pledged to match community fundraising efforts for the project up to $50,000. Thanks to the generosity of local donors and the Foundation’s commitment, the full pledge was realized. Although the Society requested just over $48,000 in matching funds, the College of Life Foundation went above and beyond by contributing the entire $50,000.

“This remarkable gift is a testament to the College of Life Foundation’s dedication to preserving our history,” said Gail Langner, Board President of the Estero Historical Society. “Their generosity, combined with the support of our community, has brought us significantly closer to ensuring the Alvarez/Smith House will stand as a living legacy for future generations.”

The Alvarez/Smith House, once fully relocated and restored, will serve as a museum and community gathering place, offering exhibits, cultural events, and educational programs that celebrate Estero’s unique heritage.
