Please meet our Lead Docent – Ron W.

Ron is a native of a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania, raised a family with his wife Joan and has been a Florida resident since 1996. In the 2000s they sold their custom-built retirement home and took to the road as fulltime RVers. Their first winter home was at Koreshan State Park as residential volunteer docents, living in the park and interpreting the park’s rich history for the visitors.

Ron found the history of the Koreshan Unity fascinating and was soon assigned the task to schedule and train docents and tour guides as Volunteer Docent Coordinator. He continued that position seasonally for over 10 years. Ron is also a past president of the Friends of Koreshan, a citizen’s support organization that assists the park in fund raising, historic preservation and interpretation.

In 2024, Ron decided to broaden his horizons and left his volunteer position at Koreshan State Park to become the Lead Docent at the Estero Historical Society. Ron has since built the volunteer docent numbers from one single docent to nine docents and has scheduled over a dozen speaking engagements in the Estero area in the upcoming season, using volunteer docents as speakers.

The Estero Historical Society is so blessed to have Ron leading our cadre of docents!
